In the event of a Reasonable Suspicion, if you are not a trained supervisor, the following steps will help you get started:

Prepare

Before you are in the initial situation, have the appropriate forms ready; your trained supervisor will have these available. Telephone numbers for MCC Drug and Alcohol Screening are available on this website, and should be posted in your office, including the on call number. We are available 24/7. Also, make sure you have transportation to the office. If transportation is not available, we can be called to your location.

Observe

Observing an employee can be difficult. Make sure every observation is reported and documented with your trained supervisor. When reporting, be specific of appearances, behaviors, speech, and body odor. If you are not sure if an employee is under the influence, call your trained supervisor.

Confirm

If you are feel an employee is under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, you will need to confirm with a higher authority or your trained supervisor if they are available.

Confront

At this point, you have confirmed with a higher authority or a trained supervisor, you have contacted your trained supervisor, and you have documented all of your observations about the incident. You will then, depending on the instructions of the trained supervisor, confront the employee. Your trained supervisor will need to be present for this so that they may fill out the necessary documentation, and transport the individual to our office.

Please do not hesitate to call our office with any questions you may have regarding suspicions, protocol, availability of the staff, or anything else.

If you are a supervisor who has not had supervisor training, MCC now offers the mandatory class to get your certificate.
